• More Info - It is quite a sculptural chair. When talking about his chairs Bertoia said “they are mostly made of air...space passes right through them”. This is what makes this chair so interesting. Bertoia began experimenting with bending metal rods in 1950. This chair has been in continuous production since 1952. There is a vinyl seat cushion that snaps on and a fully upholstered version available. The metal can be finished in polished chrome, satin chrome or white or black polyester coating. There is also a larger model.

Hat Trick Chair by Frank Gehry, 1992

• More Info - This chair was inspired by apple crates and the surprising strength Gehry noticed while playing on them as a child. The name comes from a hockey term. The curved ribbon like strips of wood make this chair look graceful and natural and the back bends slightly making it feel more comfortable. It is made by laminating strips of maple veneer to 5 or 7 thick with glue. Each chair comes stamped with the KnollStudio logo, Frank Gehry's signature and the date of production. There is also a version with arms and seat cushions available.

• More Info - This chair was designed as part of Ludwig’s contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany. It is lovely minimal but curvy chair that can look both smart and decorative. It comes in either black, light brown or beige cow hide. It is also available upholstered in painted canning or padded leather.

Womb Chair by Eero Saarinen, 1948

• More Info - This chair is designed to make whoever is sitting in it feel relaxed and secure and it is a good chair to curl up in, which is why it was named the Womb chair. It is available with wool, fabric or leather upholstery in many different colours. There are three adult sizes and there is a child’s version. There is a matching ottoman.

• More Info - This beautiful wire chair was designed as part of the Bertoia Seating Collection in 1952. It is available with no upholstery, only seat upholstery or fully upholstered and in a range of colours. There is also a matching ottoman.

Cesca Chair by Marcel Breuer, 1928

• More Info - This is one of the best known and most popular of all cantilever chair designs. It was originally called the B32 but in 1960 it was renamed Cesca after Breuer’s daughter Francesca. It was designed by Breuer while he was still teaching at the Bauhaus and is a popular choice for a dining chair. An original is included in MoMA’s permanent collection and the curator there, Cara McCarty, said “it’s among the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century”. It is also available fully upholstered and with arms.

Platner Lounge Chair by Warren Platner, 1966

• More Info - This is one of two chairs from Platner’s Lounge collection of sculptural furniture which is made using steel wire to create a very fine, graceful effect. The collection won the American Institute of Architects International Award in1966. The upholstery is available in 12 colours and the wire base in bright nickel with clear lacquer protection or painted bronze metallic frame.

• More Info - This was Saarinen’s first piece he designed for Knoll. Production stopped in 1965 but copies are still being made. There is also a matching ottoman. It is available in 3 different woods and over 50 fabric and leather options.

• More Info - This chair is also known as the BFK Chair (after the designers last names), Sling Chair or Hardoy Chair. It is in the collection at MoMA. It is very lightweight and suitable for use inside and out. The seat is fitted onto the frame using pockets and can easily be taken off  to be washed or replaced. It is available with a canvas or leather seat. Canvas seats are available in 12 colours.

• More Info - This chair, sometimes referred to as the Pavilion chair, was originally designed to provide seating for the King and Queen of Spain at Barcelona’s 1929 World’s fair.  Today it is an iconic luxury piece of furniture and is a must have piece for wealthy architects, designers and important buildings and is most often seen in the lobbies of large multinationals. It even got the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977. It has an X-frame made from two flat steel bars which was inspired by Ancient Egyptian thrones. The original upholstery was white, black and tan tufted leather. There is a matching ottoman and sofa versions of it have recently been made.
